Contract, Consulting & Business Development
With 45 years working across every function of the mortgage business, from origination, servicing, secondary marketing, compliance, executive leadership to education, I can step into most mortgage consulting situations without a learning curve.
My clients are lenders, banks, credit unions, and industry-related firms. Most engagements come through referrals or existing relationships. If someone sent you here, you already have a sense of what I bring.
What This Looks Like
The range is broad. A few examples of what recent engagements have looked like:
On the lender and credit union side, I have helped organizations think through whether to service loans in-house, use a sub-servicer, or sell servicing — a decision with tradeoffs most people outside of secondary marketing do not fully appreciate. I have worked with credit unions on compensation plans for mortgage staff, the mechanics of adding FHA and VA products, and how to help non-mortgage leaders within the organization understand how the mortgage department fits into the credit union. That last one is more common than you might expect; the mortgage team is often the black sheep of the credit union, and bridging that gap can change the trajectory of the whole operation.
On the training side, I work with mortgage teams to broaden their understanding beyond their own job function. A processor who understands why secondary marketing makes the decisions it does, or an originator who understands what happens after closing, is a better employee. This is distinct from NMLS continuing education. it is practical, internal training built around your operation.
On the business development and industry relations side, I currently serve as Director of Client Success for Garris Horn LLP, a nationally recognized law firm for mortgage bankers. In that role I work to connect the firm with clients, stay ahead of what the industry needs, and — as much as anything — help clients avoid needing a lawyer in the first place.
I am also a panelist with Newbold Advisors, which provides access to a broader consulting platform for organizations that require an established firm for larger or more complex engagements.
Book Alan as a Speaker
I speak regularly at state and national mortgage association events, credit union conferences, and industry gatherings — on topics where current market dynamics, regulatory change, and real-world experience intersect.
My presentations are built from primary involvement in national policy conversations and 45 years of on-the-ground industry experience. I was at the MBA National Advocacy Conference before I spoke at your event. I served on the committees that shaped the policy your members are navigating. That context is what makes the content useful rather than generic.
I am available for keynote presentations, panel participation, and moderated discussions — for both local and national audiences.
Topics I Cover
• Current mortgage market conditions and the rate environment
• Legislative and regulatory developments affecting lenders and servicers
• Employer-assisted mortgage programs and workforce housing
• Credit union mortgage strategy — compensation, product expansion, and member growth
• NMLS continuing education as a featured course
• Professional development and the CMB designation
